Jaipur: Over the last decade since its commercial launch, Reliance Jio has revolutionised the telecom market in Rajasthan. When Jio entered the market in September 2016, few could have imagined that the entire industry would be transformed in just a few years. Jio completes its 10 years on September 5.

Reliance Jio has been the undisputed market leader over its first decade in the Rajasthan telecom circle. As per TRAI, from no reported mobile user base in August 2016, Jio recorded 9.6 lakh mobile users in Rajasthan in its first month (Sept 2016) itself and reached 2.83 crore users by June 2026 — a net addition of 2.73 crore at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 41.4%, far outpacing all incumbents. As of June 2026, Jio has 41.2 per cent of the state’s 6.85 crore mobile connections. Jio first achieved the No. 1 position in June 2019 and has maintained its leadership position since then.

Further, driving digital inclusion across the region's vast rural and urban landscape, Jio has connected more than 14.81 lakh houses and business premises in Rajasthan with JioFiber and JioAirFiber services, which provide high-speed broadband and world-class home entertainment. Jio is also the undisputed market leader in the home broadband segment in Rajasthan.

Key Factors Behind Jio’s Meteoric Rise Nationally, Jio has around 53.33 crore customers, including 28.5 crore 5G users as of June 2026. Before Jio’s launch, call rates and data charges were major hurdles for consumers. Jio ushered in a new era of competition by adopting a strategy of affordable data and free voice calling, resolving both concerns. Ten years ago, Indians rationed mobile data by the megabyte; today, the country consumes data at a scale few global markets can match. Behind that transformation is a larger Jio story—one that evolved from making connectivity affordable to building the technology, devices, and digital infrastructure that increasingly run on top of it.

In 2016, average monthly mobile data consumption in India was below 0.2 GB per subscriber, with 1 GB costing roughly ₹228. Fewer than 10 million Indians had access to 4G networks, and average download speeds struggled around 2.5 Mbps. Then came Jio. What followed was not simply a telecom price war. It changed the relationship Indians had with the internet. A decade later, a gigabyte costs approximately ₹7.9 — a fall of about 97 per cent. Active 4G and 5G subscribers nationwide have climbed to around 93.8 crore, with an average subscriber consuming 42.3 GB per month on Jio's network.

Earlier generations of telecom networks were largely built around imported proprietary hardware and software, making operators dependent on overseas vendors for equipment, upgrades, and technology roadmaps. Jio, by contrast, has invested heavily in developing an end-to-end, indigenous, cloud-native standalone 5G network architecture best suited for the Indian terrain.
